Chinese handset maker ZTE has announced plans to bring NFC technology to future ZTE phones.
ZTE says it will integrate NXP Semiconductors’ NFC chips into its new line of global smart phones, including Android devices, as well as more entry-level feature phones.
ZTE, the world’s number four mobile phone manufacturer, will begin rolling out the new handsets in Q2 2011.
“Consumers are ready for NFC,” said Zeng Zhaoxiang, vice president of ZTE. “We have seen enormous growth in our handset shipments in Europe and the US and selected NXP as our partner because they are the market leader and their solution enabled us to reliably go to market in record time.”
