Wisconsin hospital protects infants with RFID
Waukesha Memorial Hospital, a ProHealth Care facility in eastern Wisconsin, has installed RF Technologies’ Safe Place Pediatric and Infant Security Solution to guard against abductions from its maternity and pediatric wards.
The security solution enables the staff to monitor the whereabouts of their young patients. A lightweight RFID transmitter band is placed on the patient’s wrist or ankle, and receivers are located strategically throughout the hospital. If the band is tampered with, or if the child is too close to a doorway, alarms sound and hospital doors are immediately locked down.
Initial staff training for the system took a week, along with follow-up training and periodic abduction drills. The Waukesha Memorial staff delivers around 2,300 babies a year.
