Voice and facial recognition for online access

A camera and microphone is what consumers will need for online access using Facebanx authentication technology.
The technology is being trialed by a telecommunications firm freeing its customers from the need to remember their passwords and saving money by eliminating password reset calls. Other trials due later this month include multi-national banks that are seeking to improve security by adding Facebanx’s voice and face biometrics to customer accounts, reducing the scope for criminals to access them.
Facebanx has a demo enrollment and login system on its web site. Enrollment is fairly simple, just make sure you have a computer with web cam and microphone, pretty standard these days. Use the device to take a photo and then repeat a random strong of number four times for enrollment.
When returning use the camera to take another photo and repeat four digits that appear in the screen to login. The system worked well and was easy to use the handful of times tested. My biggest issue with the demo on the site was that the word “analyzing” was misspelled as I was authenticated.
Facebanx is a member of the FIDO Alliance (Fast Identity Online), an organization of more than 100 biometric and tech companies including PayPal, Google and MasterCard, with the intention of changing online authentication with the standards-based and open specification for overcoming password dependency. This will enable privacy enhancing online authentication that is both more secure and easier to use.
