ViVOtech awarded OTA provisioning patent for NFC phones

ViVOtech, a Santa Clara, Calif-based provider of contactless and NFC mobile payments infrastructures, has been granted a NFC-related U.S. patent that covers a range of methods, systems and products for over the air provisioning of credit, debit, prepaid, loyalty and other payment or non-payment cards into mobile phone devices via wireless networks or the Internet.
This patent covers several features of ViVOtech’s OTA provisioning infrastructure software including its system for provisioning credit, debit, prepaid, loyalty and other payment or non-payment cards into NFC devices.
Included in the patent:
- Consumer self-authentication that enables secure payment cards downloaded into an NFC mobile instantly through mobile networks,
- A two-server architecture that allows an issuer to utilize a dedicated server in its own premises or operated by a third party on its behalf,
- The ability of an issuer to provision its branded image, customer support information and other relevant information from plastic cards to the card holder’s mobile devices,
- The ability to allow the first time provisioning of a single payment or loyalty card one at a time, as well as provisioning multiple cards when switching mobile phones.
