VeriFone and Gemalto have announced a partnership designed to accelerate EMV payment adoption, particularly among U.S. retailers and banks, allow VeriFone to buy Gemalto’s POS solutions business and make Gemalto VeriFone’s preferred wireless module supplier.

According to the announcement released by the two, they will jointly pursue new chip card solutions based on the global EMV payment standard that is achieving greater importance for U.S. retailers and card networks.

The two also are in discussions for VeriFone’s acquisition of Gemalto’s point of sale solutions business. Based in France, the POS solutions business would also serve as a launching pad for VeriFone’s planned European expansion campaign.
