Standards help push new deployments
Hitachi’s VeinID solution is being used throughout the world for different applications and Hitachi is also looking into developing a flat sensor that will be small enough to use in mobile devices. “Vein was kind of pegged as a one-to-one technology in the past, based on its success with ATMs in Japan using match on card technology,” said Lew Iadarola, VeinID sales manager at Hitachi Security Solutions. “We’ve really shown that the performance through independent third party tests and recent data collections and analysis made in coordination with government shows vein technology has the potential to do a lot more.”
The lack of standards around vein recognition has been one thing holding the biometric back, but Iadarola expects a standard by mid-2011 for governments and others to review.
