UF students to help decide future of campus hand scanners

Students at the University of Florida in Gainesville will be voting this week on whether the two recreation centers on campus will continue to use biometric hand scanners in place of the campus ID card to admit students.
Despite results of the referendum, the centers may still allow the hand scanners to remain optional for those students who don’t want to submit their biometric data. Use of the scanners is increasing because they provide quicker entrance into secured areas.
