UCR cyber attack affects 5,000 students and campus visitors
University of California Riverside (UCR) is in the process of investigating an incident which may have lead to hackers gaining access to more than 5,000 individual credit/debit card numbers.
The university reported that campus cash registers at food services locations were the site of the cyber attack which allowed hackers to have unauthorized access to cardholder names, numbers, expiration dates, as well as pin numbers.
UC Riverside has since notified individuals who may have been affected, also noting that not only students are at risk but also visitors who may have made credit/debit purchases at select food service locations.
“We are doing everything we can think of to notify people,” Vice Chancellor Gretchen Bolar said. “If you used your credit or debit card at any UCR Dining Services location from Summer 2011 through November 16, you may have been affected by this breach of security”.
