U.S. Bank is inviting its FlexPerks Visa customers in the Salt Lake City, and Portland, Ore. markets to pilot the bank’s new U.S. Bank Go Mobile payment service that includes NFC for iPhone.
The mobile payment service will enable customers to pay for everyday items with a simple wave of their iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S devices. U.S. Bank is introducing a Beta of their new service in conjunction with its new FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa signature account holders before a planned widespread deployment later in 2013.
Newly approved U.S. Bank FlexPerks customers who qualify and wish to take advantage of the service will be given a customized U.S. Bank Go Mobile iPhone case along with their new card. Equipped with NFC, the iPhone cases will enable customers to make safe and secure purchases with Go Mobile at any participating retailers that accept Visa payWave.
The custom Go Mobile cases also feature an extra battery that extends the phone’s charge time by better than 50% — a valuable feature for frequent travelers using FlexPerks cards.
The U.S. Bank Go Mobile system will enable participating customers to pay for items even when they don’t have the card with them. The Go Mobile app also offers customers the assurance that transactions are secured by bank-grade encryption, passcode protection, strong privacy protection, zero fraud liability and real-time fraud monitoring.
U.S. Bank has partnered with Visa, DeviceFidelity and Datacard Group to bring this payment technology to fruition.
iPhone cases were patented and developed by DeviceFidelity. The cases feature a portable secure element embedded into the microNFC card.
To further bolster security and efficiency, the microNFC and FlexPerks smart cards will be personalized with Datacard’s secure issuance solution set.
