DUBLIN, Ireland, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ –Trintech Group Plc (Nasdaq: TTPA; Neuer Markt: TTP), a leading provider ofsecure payment infrastructure solutions, today announced the successful EMVLevel 2 certification of its smart card-enabled POS terminal and PINPad
solutions.
Trintech has been successfully developing and deploying standards-based
smart solutions to merchants and resellers for over 10 years. The latest EMV
certification ensures Trintech meets its commitment to participate in major
European EMV town trials scheduled for March 2003. Trintech’s technology also
provides merchants with a unique, all-in-one solution, that minimizes
investment and disruption at store level.
“The move to more secure, chip-based, payment technology is the critical
next step for the payment industry,” said Eamon Keating, General Manager of
Trintech’s Retail Division. “Markets, such as the UK, are migrating rapidly
towards EMV smart cards and Trintech is focussed on working with merchants to
ensure they are ready to accept the new technology by the deadline. A number
of customers, such as Wilkinson, are in the process of integrating our PayWare
SmartPIN solution in order to be ready when the Northampton trial starts in
March 2003.”
“PayWare SmartPIN is cost-effective and provides us with a solution that
does not require major changes to our existing point-of-sale systems,” said
Eddie Clerck, Systems Development Controller at Wilkinson.
EMVCo certifies vendors’ software and hardware to ensure compatibility of
smart card accepting devices to a worldwide standard administered by
Europay/MasterCard and Visa (EMV). The EMV Level 2 certification covers the
software aspects of processing a smart card transaction.
Trintech’s EMV solution provides an Application Programming Interface
(API) to allow easy integration with existing payment applications, whether
these applications are resident on a PINPad or POS terminal; EPOS system or a
back-office server. By keeping the certification relevant part of the EMV
solution on its PINPad, Trintech has minimized the impact on existing payment
software infrastructure in large stores.
Trintech’s EMV software library is certified to EMV standard and covers
both Static Data Authentication (SDA), and Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA).
The software library is certified on Trintech’s full range of devices,
including the Compact 950-PP, Compact 9400i, Smart 5000 and the OpenPay
platform. For more information on Trintech’s range of EMV merchant solutions,
