Transit Police bust major fake ID operation

Transit Police in Vancouver have shut down a major counterfeiting operation that allegedly produced and sold thousands of fake IDs to young people across Canada and the United States, according to The Vancouver Sun.
Three men, so far, have been charged in connection with the manufacture, possession, and trafficking of thousands of forged identification over a period of two years. The illegal operation reportedly netted its organizers more than $500,000 in proceeds before the Transit Police launched its investigation.
The scheme appeared to have initially targeted young people by offering online sales of fake driver’s licenses, health cards and ID cards for major universities in Canada and the U.S., but then spread to older buyers.
It’s believed about 2,000 counterfeit cards have been issued, most them to minors but some also to adults. IDs were available for all 10 provinces and 50 states, and reportedly either hand-delivered or mailed to the buyers.
The search of a Vancouver home uncovered thousands of fake ID cards, laptops, cell phones, scanners, hard drives, a card printer and blank cards. Two men were arrested following the search, while a third was arrested thereafter.
