The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Battles Password Management Issues with Imprivata
LEXINGTON, MA — Imprivata®, Inc., the converged identity and access management appliance company, today announced that The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) implemented OneSign™ Single Sign-On (SSO) throughout its headquarters to address password management issues across multiple departments. Since deploying Imprivata’s technology, the private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving military medicine and public health has improved user convenience, reduced help desk costs and increased enterprise security.
Recognized for advancing medical science, HJF prides itself on fostering a dynamic, innovative work environment. However, as the number of passwords necessary for employees to remember in order to gain access to crucial applications steadily increased, the IT Infrastructure group found itself faced with increasing employee frustration. The team quickly began looking for a single sign-on solution to address this issue so that employees could focus on meeting the unique needs of military medicine, rather than on their passwords. After reviewing several solutions from various vendors, the IT Infrastructure group selected Imprivata OneSign SSO because it was the easiest to use in terms of administration, training and end-user deployment.
“Imprivata’s appliance-based solution makes single sign-on extremely simple because once it is installed, you can essentially forget about it – it works that smoothly,” explained Michael Wilson, IT Infrastructure Director at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine. “It reduces error, controls the environment and requires no modifications to existing applications. We are very pleased with our investment in OneSign.”
The IT Infrastructure group implemented OneSign SSO with all employee levels from vice presidents to the receptionist and throughout multiple departments including IT, Purchasing, Accounting, HR, Legal, Administrative, Finance and Program Management. Rolling out OneSign SSO one department at a time through a phased deployment, each stage took just one to two days. With minimal training required for the users, the phased implementation went smoothly and quickly. To date, approximately 20 different applications are SSO-enabled at the organization.
Along with making application access easier for users, thereby reducing the number of password reset calls the help desk was fielding on a regular basis, the implementation of OneSign SSO brought another benefit to the organization. Though not bound by HIPAA regulations, HJF uses its guidelines as a measure that they strive to exceed. As such, it has internal policies dictating user access and, like similar organizations, is audited on a regular basis. With OneSign SSO’s monitoring and reporting capabilities, HJF is able to easily track who has access to what applications and prove that access with accurate, comprehensive reports when an audit takes place.
“We designed the OneSign appliance to be a convenient yet effective answer to specific security issues such as password and access management. And we have consistently found that our customers not only reap the expected benefits for which they purchased the solution, but also experience additional ROI,” said Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “The Henry M. Jackson Foundation is no exception and we are proud to showcase their success.”
Imprivata’s OneSign platform is an authentication and access management solution conveniently packaged in an affordable and secure purpose-built appliance.
