TD Waterhouse unveils voice biometrics for customers

TD Waterhouse, a discount brokerage firm, has implemented a voice recognition system that records specific and unique qualities of a client’s voice as a means of securely identifying the individual, according to an Investment Executive article.
The new system, called Voice Print System, enables Waterhouse customers to make a voiceprint over the phone. The data collected from their voice is translated and encrypted into a mathematical representation and stored in a database to as a means of future identification. Other financial institutions have been implementing similar systems in an effort to reduce the amount of time a customer service representative spends manually identifying a customer.
