SmartMetric, a developer of biometric technologies, has announced it has developed a new procedure for mass production of its Biometric Fingerprint Cards, plastic credit-card like cards that have embedded biometric scanning capabilities. As the previous process of embedding the electronics into the plastic cards had issues surrounding the difficulty in not damaging the electronics, SmartMetric had only been able to produce small batches at any given time.
Now, with a procedure that is capable of producing one million cards a month, the company is able to target commercial and government uses for the card that were previously unrealistic for them. The new plant to house the mass manufacturing of the cards is planned for construction in Florida.
