Smart Centric Announces chip based and biometric secure computer access

Today, Smart Centric Technologies International Limited launches a new value added application to SmartCity® allowing smart card enabled logon to Windows 2000 PCs. SmartCity® Logon is a chip based product that to allow card holders to logon to local or domain controlled Windows 2000 based PCs using their SmartCity® Smart Card . It can be used for both personal PCs and PCs used in public area computers such as Libraries and computer laboratories.
SmartCity® Logon is available in two modes, Pin mode and Biometrics mode
Pin
In the Pin mode, using the familiar PIN based security, on insertion of the Smart Card (via any PC/SC smart card reader ), the card holder is requested to enter a PIN. Once the PIN is authenticated, SmartCity® Logon retrieves the Userid and password and logs the card holder on the their machine/domain.
Biometric Mode
Providing an extra layer of security, SmartCity® Logon with Biometrics, the card holder’s finger print template in held in a protected file on the card. On insertion of their Smart Card, the card holder is first required to enter their PIN number. They are then required to present their finger via a biometric reader. Once both the PIN and the Finger Print are authenticated, SmartCity® Logon retrieves the Userid and password and logs the card holder on the their machine/domain. SmartCity® Logon with Biometrics, currently support Gemplus GemPC-Touch 430 and 440 biometric card readers.
SmartCity® Logon is available on all SmartCity compatible smart cards that have sufficient storage. It can be used with existing or newly primed SmartCity smart cards. Smart Centric has plans for options that will allows customers to use SmartCity® Logon to provide :
– Time and Attendance facilities
– Charging for use of Computer Resources
