Security White Papers, Case Studies Available
New York, NY – April 22, 2002. New reports released by the Smart Card Alliance’s Digital Security Initiative indicate that smart card technology is becoming integrated into leading enterprise and government IT networks around the world. The white papers and case studies announced today provide senior level IT managers with information that they need to implement smart card solutions that create more secure networks and deliver significant returns on investment.
Available at www.smartcardalliance.org, reports include real world case studies that illustrate current smart card initiatives in the public and private sector, including implementations by Schlumberger Limited, Royal Dutch Shell Group, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Navy, Caljfornia Independent System Operator, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
In addition to case studies, the Digital Security Initiative is also introducing two new white papers outlining some of the major issues in the smart card industry. The first white paper traces the integration of the smart card reader into the personal computer architecture. The second white paper highlights one of the most crucial issues for acceptance of smart card technology by the IT community. The paper hails the release of the Government Smart Card Interoperability Specification (GSC-IS) as “the first comprehensive effort to address the interoperability requirements for the enterprise market.”
“We’re delighted to bring these materials to the IT community. Smart card systems are no longer just for the ultra high security enterprise; the work of many industry participants now allows Fortune 1000 organizations to incorporate this technology as they enhance their security architecture,” said Charles Cagliostro, Chairman of the Smart Card Alliance Digital Security Initiative. “We found that IT executives know about smart card technology, but might not have a clear understanding of how to implement or apply it. Together, these case studies and white papers provide a business perspective for any IT executive re-evaluating the security of their digital networks.”
The Digital Security Initiative (DSI) is a Work Group of the Smart Card Alliance, a not-for-profit, multi-industry association whose members include leading companies and organizations promoting or using smart card technology and applications. The DSI is focused on activities to increase the usage of smart card technology in network security programs by providing free educational resources to information technology professionals and by working on projects that help to resolve technical or business issues that may impede enterprises from employing smart cards in their security solutions.
Cagliostro will be moderating the panel, “Digital Security with Smart Cards,” at this week’s CardTech/SecurTech conference in New Orleans on Wednesday, April 24.
