The Smart Card Alliance Latin America (SCALA) chapter has released a white paper designed to help Latin American and Caribbean countries migrate to EMV.
The paper, entitled “Card Payments Roadmap in Latin America: How Does EMV Impact the Payments Infrastructure?” is an effort of SCALA to educate its constituents on the considerations surrounding the migration to EMV.
Implementation of EMV has expanded throughout the region as the benefits of EMV migration, such as increased fraud protection, have increased and the costs and implementation issues have decreased. EMV is now available in over 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The paper discusses the roadmap options for the region and how global and regional EMV deployments affect the overall industry. It provides a security primer and explanation of the relationship between EMV and other types of payment, including contactless and NFC. The paper also includes information about the various types of architecture necessary to support EMV roadmap options.
