Sharjah, the third largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates, will launch a contactless faring system for public buses next month, according to Gulf News.
Sharjah Transport authorities are encouraging citizens who complain of not receiving exact change from bus drivers to embrace the new cashless system, which will feature contactless smart cards called Sayer cards.
Passenger will be able to buy contactless Sayer cards the second week of January. The cards will feature a photo of the passenger and offer riders a 10% discounted fare.
Users can add cash onto their cards at vending terminals in Al Jubail Station and Shuwaiheen Station, with more on the way. By March, Sharjah plans to add a monthly subscription service to benefit frequent riders.
