Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville has implemented the AeroScout real-time location system (RTLS) across its health care facilities to improve operational efficiency and staff satisfaction by automating asset tracking and temperature monitoring.
The teaching hospital originally implemented AeroScout Asset Management to track approximately 1,000 assets – with a combined value of $1.1 million – across five departments, including the real-time location of Workstation on Wheels carts from a central command center.
Shands has since expanded this solution to track a range of equipment, including wheelchairs, stretchers and other high-value or limited-quantity items across several more departments. And Shands plans to double the number of items being tracked over the next year.
Working together with Stanley Healthcare and FieldServer Technologies, Shands has also integrated AeroScout temperature and humidity Wi-Fi Tags with its building management system. The hospital currently uses the solution to monitor liquid nitrogen coolers and plans to continue to use this new wireless monitoring solution elsewhere within the enterprise.
Since installing the AeroScout RTLS, Shands has reduced hours spent searching for missing items by 98.8 percent and a 99.3 percent reduction in occurrences of lost items.
