SEPTA postpones smart card fare system again

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which now is seeking about $100 million from a $1.5 billion federal grant program for national and regional transportation projects, has postponed for the fourth time its deadline for receiving proposals for a contactless fare card system.
It’s newest deadline is Sept. 30, more than six months after its original March 17 date for manufacturers to submit proposals for a system to replace tokens and paper tickets for its buses, subways, trolleys, and trains.
One reason for the delay is that the agency is hopeful the financial market may improve which could lead to better funding offers from vendors.
