SecuGen’s New SecuDesktop® Pro Software Supports FIPS 201/PIV Biometric Standards
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 25 – SecuGen Corporation, a world leading provider of commercial quality, optical fingerprint devices and software, is pleased to announce the availability of SecuDesktop Pro v2.0 software, which uses SecuGen’s FIPS 201 approved template extraction and matching algorithms and supports SecuGen’s FIPS 201 approved Hamster IV fingerprint reader.
At the core of SecuDesktop Pro are SecuGen’s NIST certified, MINEX-compliant template extraction and matching algorithms that have been tested and approved for use in the U.S. government’s Personal Identity Verification PIV program as defined by the FIPS 201 standard. Additionally, SecuDesktop Pro works with the SecuGen Hamster(TM) IV fingerprint reader, which was recently certified by the FBI as FIPS 201 compliant.
“The Federal Government is moving rapidly to deploy biometrics across a wide variety systems in an effort to improve security in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD 12),” said Dan Riley, VP of Software Development for SecuGen. “We have been working hard to provide the tools, products, and platforms that our partners can use to implement these systems for security applications that support the government’s biometric standards. SecuDesktop Pro is SecuGen’s latest product release intended for that market.”
SecuDesktop Pro supports Microsoft Vista and uses advanced biometric technology to safeguard desktop and laptop PCs against unauthorized intrusion. SecuDesktop Pro’s fingerprint authentication “module” integrates seamlessly into the Windows logon process allowing a user to logon with his or her fingerprint. By replacing passwords with fingerprints, SecuDesktop Pro provides a powerful, more secure and convenient way to logon to Windows and protect information resources stored in a PC.
Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, added, “Our reseller partners have expressed a need for solutions that meet U.S. government biometric standards, and we are very pleased to offer this new version of SecuDesktop that provides our partners with critical new technologies that comply with FIPS 201. FIPS 201 incorporates biometric standards that set a high bar for quality, accuracy and performance. Because they provide objective, third-party certification against rigorous standards, we believe that in the long run, FIPS 201 will be a major facilitator of growth for the biometrics industry.”
SecuDesktop Pro v2.0 is compatible with SecuGen’s complete line of USB fingerprint readers including Hamster III, Hamster Plus, Hamster IV, OptiMouse III, and Keyboard III for both commercial and government use.
