RFID solutions provider Savi Technology Inc. has reached a settlement agreement with its competitor AeroScout Inc., over an alleged patent infringement by AeroScout. The patents in question cover Savi’s “Low-Frequency Wake-Up” RFID technology.
The patents involved in the case – U.S. Patent Nos. 6,542,114, 6,765,484, and 6,940,392 – are for a technology which provides extended battery life and improved location capabilities for active RFID devices. These are some of the 29 patents Savi holds for various wireless communication technologies. Multiple companies have licensed the patents, and some of them have been incorporated into the ISO 18000-7 standard for active RFID.
The terms for the settlement of the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, were not disclosed. However, a statement from Savi referred to the settlement as “favorable” for the firm, which is a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.
