Sagem Morpho, a developer of face recognition biometric technology, has seen their MorphoFace Investigate (MFI) system lead to its first arrest. The arrest occurred in Pierce County, Washington where the Sheriff’s Department caught a suspect for identity theft by comparing ATM camera footage with their database of mug shots.
The match provided by MFI accounted for enough evidence for a judge to grant an arrest warrant in the case.
In addition to the matching function of MFI that are capable with linking up to databases of mug shots, driver licenses and other images, it is also capable of case evidence management and forensic evaluation tools. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was the first law enforcement agency in the U.S. to use the MFI system.
