SAFE-BioPharma names Alterman COO

The SAFE-BioPharma Association has named Peter Alterman, Ph.D., its Chief Operating Officer. The Association is a non-profit collaboration responsible for the global SAFE-BioPharma digital identity and digital signature standard for the life science and health care industries.
Alterman has 33 years of information security experience in the U.S. federal government, most recently with the National Program Office of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, NIST, where he retired from his position as senior advisor.
Alterman has been involved with Internet technology since 1989, when he was a member of the Federal Research Internet Coordinating Committee. He has also been a senior advisor to the NIH CIP for Strategic Initiatives, Assistant CIO for e-authentication at the National Institutes of Health and Chair of the U.S. Federal PKI Policy Authority.
In his role with the association, Alterman will take on several management functions, as well as be the group’s primary liaison with the U.S. FDA and other global regulatory authorities, representing the association with global standards and policy groups.
