RFID…that brings back memories
An Oxfam store in Manchester, UK is trying out a system that will enable people to attach stories to the objects that they donate using RFID tags, according to a Wired news article.
When a person donates an item to the store they are asked to share a brief narrative about the item into a microphone – when and where it was acquired, along with any personal stories that may also be associated with it.
The store then provides customers with a jailbroken iPhone equipped with an RFID reader. Customers can then browse the stores collection and get the history of any item before purchasing it.
The project is called “RememberMe” and comes as part of the Future Everything festival, held in Manchester, UK starting May 12, 2010.
