No more paper passes or bar code scanners for these ski resorts. Starting this winter season, Australia’s own Thredbo and Perisher Ski Resorts will do away with the prehistoric tools and replace it the more streamlined RFID technology, reports iTnews.
Dubbed “MyRide” technology, the initial launch will see to it that 29 Perisher ski lifts be equipped with RFID portals, together with 15 mobile scanners and tablets for those random spot checks. With RFID, Perisher staff will be able to determine exactly how many people are skiing and precisely where they are skiing.
With equipment supplied by Skidata and Resort Technology Partners (RTP), the entire project cost a total of $1.8 million – deploying two new servers and installing an additional 500 meters of optical fiber on top of the existing network.
The new system will enable the ski resorts increased intelligence, as well as open a new web portal that will allow users to track their history on the slopes, and share it amongst their friends and family.
