RFID denture retrieves personal health, emergency medical profile
I-DENTI-FIED Inc. has developed a patent-pending system in which a unique patient ID on a miniature RFID transponder is placed into a denture or dental prosthetic.
During a medical visit, a hospital, ambulance or a doctor’s office equipped with a special RFID reader can retrieve the ID and display the patient’s emergency medical profile via a secure Internet transaction.
Once enrolled in the I-DENTI-FIED System, the patient completes an online personal health record with information from their doctor and can update the record with changes to medications, allergies and conditions.
The company says the I-DENTI-FIED system cannot be lost or stolen, and is a long-term alternative to short-term, patient-dependent identification systems like temporary bracelets, wallet cards and wristbands that can be lost or forgotten.
The system is designed for high-risk populations of individuals with chronic illnesses, including dementia, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and special needs like autism or down syndrome.
