Heavily investing in R & D, the Finnish company Rafsec has developed three new products for card and ticket producers around the world for low cost contactless fare collection and access control, soon-to-boom business areas of wireless identification for products and the people who use them.
The new products include a new semi-durable ticket transponder, Rafsec Flexticket, a new low-cost card transponder – the Rafsec Flexcard , and a new delivery format for smart card transponders, Rafsec Avantcard, that allows ease-of-use in plastic card manufacturing, with lower cost.
The Rafsec Flexticket is a new low-cost ticket transponder with extra durability made possible by a synthetic face material, that allows reusability with lower cost. It enables the use of a plastic ticket for low value transactions or short-term use ticketing in transit applications, and can also be used as a temporary access card. It fills the gap between low cost magnetic stripe card and traditional contactless PVC card, and no similar product exists in the market today. Flexticket is available with Philips Mifare Ultralight (ISO14443A) and STMicroelectronics SR 176 (ISO 14443B) ICs.
The new low-cost card transponder Rafsec Flexcard offers plastic card producers the chance to make a lower cost contactless card with a new package format, that allows this PET-laminated transponder to be produced in reel to reel process but can be delivered also in sheet format. It is printable, and is available with different ICs, mainly Philips Mifare Ultralight (ISO14443A) and STMicroelectronics SR 176 (ISO 14443B).
Rafsec Avantcard is a new transponder delivery format for production of Contactless Plastic Cards, which are used extensively in mass transit and building access control. The new Rafsec system utilizes ICs bonded to an etched antenna using a Flipchip process with adhesive coatings on each side of the sheet, instead of arrays of wound copper wire antennas bonded to an IC module. Various formats on standard communication interfaces are available.
Rafsec Flexticket, Flexcard and Avantcard complement the transponder family that already includes a low-cost single use paper ticket called Rafsec Ecoticket, which is now available in ISO 14443A and B platforms.
These developments are the result of intensive work by Rafsec’s product development team and reflect Rafsec’s commitment to expanding the market for contactless solutions.
