Precise Biometrics has received an extension of last year’s contact that will lead to the eventual delivery of national ID cards to Thailand’s 64 million citizens. The 2005 order for 12 million cards was successfully completed with production of the biometrics-based Precise Match-on-Card.
LUND, SWEDEN – Precise Biometrics AB, a Swedish company that develops and sells world-leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints and smart cards, has received a follow-up order from the Thai authorities concerning biometrics for national ID cards. Precise Biometrics estimates that the expected revenue during a three-year period will generate about SEK 20 million. The Thailand project in its entirety means that Precise Biometrics, together with Smart Card Systems International Co, Ltd (SSI), will be delivering biometrics for the national ID card to all of Thailand’s 64 million citizens.
In April 2005, Precise Biometrics received a breakthrough order in Thailand for licenses for 12 million national ID cards. The company has now received the follow-up order for the remaining licenses for Thai national ID cards. “We are naturally pleased that once again the Thai authorities have entrusted us to deliver biometrics for the national ID cards. We have calculated that this second phase of the project is worth about SEK 20 million in revenue during a three-year period. The revenue include licenses for Precise Match-on-CardT technology and licenses for fingerprint readers, but we will also receive revenue from maintenance services and sales of hardware,” says Christer Bergman, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics.
The follow-up order for the remaining national ID cards has been obtained in cooperation with Smart Card Systems International Co, Ltd (SSI), the local integrator and service partner, in exactly the same way as the breakthrough order. “The integration in the first phase of the project has functioned very well, and we are looking forward to further cooperation with Precise Biometrics,” says Dr Sangchai Apichatthanapath, CEO of SSI.
During the year the project has gone according to plan and Precise Match-on-CardT has fulfilled the technical requirements and expectations the Thai authorities have had for the biometric solution. Therefore it feels quite natural that Precise Biometrics would also deliver the remaining number of licenses for the national ID cards.
“In addition to the expectation of the revenue, the Thailand order is of great importance to us as a reference project. Several countries around the world are planning to introduce national ID cards with biometrics, and our success with the Thailand project has proved that our technology is stable and ready for a full-scale rollout, and that we can offer superior performance,” concludes Christer Bergman, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics.
