Police are investigating more than 2,000 student emergency contact cards that were stolen from North Miami Beach Senior High School, according to a local news report. The cards hold students’ personal information, some including their social security numbers.
The recent breach of identity information has many parents and students worried. “I just heard that they stole a whole bunch of emergency contact cards in the school, and that’s all I heard.” said one student who wishes to remain anonymous. “It’s very concerning because it has our social security numbers,” said the student.
The Miami-Dade School District released a statement that read: “The School District is notifying parents of the theft of more than 2,000 emergency contact cards from North Miami Beach Senior High School. The cards contain students’ personal information, which could be misused if in the wrong hands.”
This isn’t the first time a Miami school has been targeted for these emergency contact cards. Just a month ago, in November, thieves stole as many as 300 contact cards from Miami Norland Senior High School.
