AuthenTec’s biometric fingerprint sensors have been selected by Privaris for its plusID™ line of personal hand-held biometric security products. Privaris plans to certify interoperability between its plusID family of personal, handheld biometric identity verification tokens and RSA SecurID two-factor authentication technology from RSA. The RSA SecurID one-time password (OTP) algorithm will be embedded within plusID devices, enabling a three-factor authentication solution. A single plusID provides a physical and logical access control solution compatible with many existing security systems.
AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Selected by Privaris for the plusID™ Universal Biometric Device with Planned Integration of RSA SecurID® Technology
*Line of Multi-Function Biometric Security Tokens Enables Organizations to Easily Deploy a Secure Identity Verification Solution across the Enterprise
MELBOURNE, Fla.*–AuthenTec (NASDAQ:AUTH), the world’s leading provider of fingerprint sensors, announced that its biometric fingerprint sensors have been selected by Privaris for its plusID™ line of personal hand-held biometric security products. Privaris plans to certify interoperability between its plusID family of personal, handheld biometric identity verification tokens and RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication technology from RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE:EMC).
The RSA SecurID one-time password (OTP) algorithm will be embedded within plusID devices, enabling a three-factor authentication solution. A single plusID provides a physical and logical (IT) access control solution compatible with existing security systems for rapid deployment – no additional middleware, wiring or coding required.
The Privaris plusID personal token employs AuthenTec’s TruePrint® technology to provide heightened security to an organizations’ existing security infrastructure, alleviating the reliance on an array of access cards and passwords. Users simply slide a finger across the tiny sensor on the key-fob-sized plusID token to authenticate their identity and securely access multiple facilities, computers, and networks. With the embedded AuthenTec sensor, all of the biometric processing is done on-board the plusID device.
“AuthenTec’s sensors bring a sought-after level of convenience and security to our family of plusID devices, and help organizations address the need to converge security processes across both physical and IT assets,” said John Petze, Chief Executive Officer of Privaris. “We are collaborating with leading companies like AuthenTec and RSA to provide organizations with an identity verification solution that offers security and convenience while eliminating the expense and liability of maintaining a biometric database.”
The AuthenTec AES2510 biometric fingerprint sensor is an integral part of a distinctive three-factor authentication solution: something you have – a plusID token, something you know – a one-time password generated on the device by RSA SecurID technology, and something you are – your fingerprint. This integrated solution will offer expanded deployment options and cost-savings by enabling enterprises to leverage a single RSA SecurID enabled plusID token for both IT and physical access control.
“With the three-factor authentication of the plusID security token, users across the enterprise will be able to privately and securely access physical and logical assets without requiring changes to existing security systems,” said Larry Ciaccia, President of AuthenTec. “We’re pleased to see the AES2510 chosen as a critical element in this exciting new product that combines the technology of three security leaders.”
AuthenTec’s sensors are based on the company’s patented TruePrint® technology, the only solution in production that reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer, where a person’s true fingerprint resides. This unique subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to read virtually every fingerprint, anywhere.
The plusID also employs the Broadcom BCM5890 secure processor to perform trusted cryptographic operations and protect the user’s sensitive biometric data, for an unmatched level of security. Additionally, the device allows for a variety of wireless connectivity options including low and high frequency RFID, NFC, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.15.4, as well as USB for a connected option.
The powerful collaboration of RSA SecurID technology and the plusID token is driven by Privaris’ participation in the RSA SecurID Ready for Authenticators Partner Program, an extension of the trusted RSA Secured® Partner Program. Earlier this year, Privaris announced its participation in the RSA Partner Program.
