Tursib, the local public transport operator in Sibiu, Romania, has partnered together with BRD and MasterCard to implement a payment solution leveraging PayPass contactless technology.
The contactless system offers passengers the ability to pay for the current trip directly on the means of public transportation using MasterCard and Maestro PayPass cards. Payment for the trip may also be carried out by contactless cards issued by other banks.
To purchase a ticket, passengers simply approach the transit terminal and tap their PayPass-enabled cards to the reader. Following approval of the transaction the device will automatically issue the ticket – receipt.
The new system aims to move people through more quickly, reduce long queues and eliminate the need for passengers to locate exact change when paying fare.
