PAN cards ready for Indian populace

As the biometric Personal Account Number (PAN) plan for India’s citizens begins to get underway, multiple IT firms have stepped up to develop the cards and infrastructure and provide support for users, according to a Business Standard article.
Among the companies throwing their hats in the ring are Infosys, HCL, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), CMC, Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), ITI and Bharat Electronics.
The Indian government has planned the PAN card system in an effort to ensure citizens are filing their taxes with their recognized with their one issued number authenticated via the card’s embedded fingerprint and facial biometric data. In addition to the PAN card system being led by the country’s income tax department, the Indian government is also getting ready for a rollout of biometric-based national ID cards.
