NuVision Networks is helping a small Georgia college meet its extensive record-keeping requirements mandated by a federal grant. What started out as pen and paper record-keeping has progressed to a simple swipe of a card.
Napa. CA – NuVision Networks has extended its integrated campus concept at Paine College in Augusta, GA by providing the Tutorial and Enrichment Center a solution for its record keeping.
The Paine College TEC center is required to maintain accurate and detailed records of usage to fulfill the requirements of a Title III grant. They progressed from a few notebooks to a homegrown stand-alone sign-in program using Filemaker Pro. When NuVision Networks Corp. became the college’s one-card provider, the company modified some of its software to accommodate the college’s needs. Now, using its direct access data integration to the College’s Jenzabar Data System, NuVision is able to automatically handle the operation.
Users of the Paine TEC center simply scan their cards in a computer, choose the faculty member, course, and tutor and click a sign-in button. To sign out the cardholder simply swipes his or her card again and presses the sign-out button. NuVision also includes functionality for non-classroom tutoring, A/V equipment sign-out or computer program sign-out.
The iAMECS Advanced System is also being used by the TEC Center to efficiently record workshop attendance. Carol Overton, Director of Paine’s TEC said, “The system has made record-keeping much less cumbersome. We are able to pull up a variety of reports very easily and we are able to quickly extract data.”
NuVision Networks modified that program for the LRC (Learning Resource Center) to allow cardholders to sign in for rooms with various prescribed options or for a particular faculty member and class. NVN also created a number of reports to allow the college administration to use the data collected.
Most of these cross-campus applications are possible because NVN has direct integration to many of its customers’ Information Systems, including Sungard SCT Banner, PeopleSoft and Jenzabar. Sungard SCT PowerCampus and Datatel integration will be available shortly.
“Since the NuVision system is connected directly to our college system, we no longer have to manually add students or faculty, which was a very time consuming job,” said Ms. Overton.
NuVision intends to expand its Integrated Campus program to provide more Web access through its Campus Center portal as well as providing more card access and data to various departments.
