Omni-ID revealed that Saipem, provider of construction and subsea engineering services to offshore oil and gas industries, selected the Omni-ID Max passive RFID tag for tracking its high-value metal assets.
Saipem looks to automate location tracking of large industrial equipment such as cranes and drilling rigs, all while performing well in an environment surrounded by steel and saltwater.
A passive tag, the Omni-ID Max offers a standard read range of 8 meters or more and can be read successfully even in offshore applications. Omni-ID tags have successfully been tested on large pipe stacks, a major component of Saipem’s every day encounters – and eliminate the safety risk of personnel climbing huge oil pipes stacked in a facility to find an identification tag.
Additionally, the Omni-ID Max tag is a one-tag system, enabling greater cost savings. Working on metal, plastic or a combination of the two Saipem can tag floats and buoys in addition to the vessels, cranes and other metal machinery.
