A new technology to combat IC counterfeiting has been released by NXP, a semiconductor solutions provider. The company has licensed technology called Hardware Intrinsic Security (HIS) in collaboration with Intrinsic-ID to better protect computer chips and systems from IP theft.
The idea behind NXP’s solution is Hardware Intrinsic Security’s approach to secure key storage called Quiddikey. Quiddikey is a security feature allowing a device to produce a secret key only when needed and power down without key present.
NXP claims that this technology will protect silicon-based systems against cloning, tampering, theft-of-service and reverse engineering. The company has targeted the HIS authentication solution primarily for e-government products, Pay TV access management systems and electronic devices and peripherals.
