NIST to co-sponsor 2012 Biometrics Consortium Conference

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has agreed to co-sponsor this year’s Biometrics Consortium Conference with the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). The conference will take place Sept. 18-21, 2012, at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Fla.
The conference will discuss the latest advances in biometric technologies for a variety of applications, including identity management, electronic commerce, defense, homeland security and border crossing. It’s geared toward policy makers, government and industry executives, IT users and developers, law enforcement officials and systems integrators and researchers in the biometric authentication field.
This year the conference is adding a new track called the AFCEA Identity Management Focus Session that will cover best practices, case studies, health care and other challenges with security and developing technologies.
Featured presentations include speakers from India and Indonesia, who will discuss large scale biometric installations in their countries; a keynote on the history of biometrics in the FBI; and a session on the recently published NIST Special Publication 500-290.
The conference will also offer workshops, as well as a biometrics training update for IEEE Certified Biometrics Professionals. The event runs concurrently with the Biometric Technology Expo.
