Newport Bus of Wales is implementing a new contactless fare collection system, according to BBC News.
Newport Bus, along with the assembly government, will make some 650,000 smart cards available for purchase to Welsh riders, who can use the cards to pay for fares by simply tapping their cards against an onboard reader.
The passes can be purchased at weekly, monthly and annual rates, and for less frequent travelers, Newport will soon offer a top-up payment card onto which users can load cash as needed.
For adults, the weekly, monthly and annual rates are £12, £46.80 and £561.60, respectively, with reductions for seniors and children.
According to Newport Bus, this program marks the first of its kind for bus transit in Wales.
