A new use for biometrics has been developed

To solve the problem of replacing passwords and PINs with regard to online financial transactions or other means where sensitive information may be sent over an unsecured network, researchers from South Africa have developed a new way to use biometrics to both encrypt and unencrypt sent information, according to a Science Daily article.
The system, called BioVault, uses a random stored biometric signature of the receiver rather than the sender to encrypt. According to the researchers involved, this system could also be used for digital signatures on documents and to execute softwares.
