New student ID at Idaho university acts as debit card too

Idaho State University in Pocatello and the school’s Federal Credit Union have launched a student ID card that doubles as a debit card. It’s also a fund-raiser for the university since 10% of the transaction fees will go to the university, according to a local news report. In addition, the credit union announced it will also open a new branch inside ISU’s student union building.
“Students are not going into debt for this,” commented Robert Taylor, president and CEO of the credit union. “The interchange from swiping the card at different businesses will be shared with the university.”
The BengalCard Plus, which won’t be available until July, combines the student ID card and a MasterCard debit card and is only available to ISU Federal Credit Union members attending or employed by the university. However, An account at the credit union is not required for those students who just need the ID card.
