New Paris Metro card may be topped up by phone
The Paris Metro’s 2013 Navigo transit card may come with a new feature that enables users to top up their card accounts via mobile phone, according to the Verge.
STIF, the organization that runs the Paris Metro, is looking to add NFC functionality to the next-generation Navigo card that would enable commuters to add credit by simply tapping their Navigo against their NFC-enabled handset.
While this upgrade will not allow users to tap their NFC phones at the gate to pay for fares, it is not unreasonable to believe that NFC payments are just around the corner for the Metro, says the Verge.
The next-gen cards will debut on Jan. 2013.
