Libramation, a Canadian provider of library automation technology, has announced it will begin using a new RFID chip. The chip, from NXP, offers both increased privacy protection and a 40-year guarantee for data retention.
NXP’s ICODE SLI-SY chip will be used in all of Libramation’s future RFID projects, but company representatives emphasized the appeal that the chip, when combined with Libramation’s Lib-Chip software, will have for Special and Academic libraries. The collections of these types of libraries have much longer life spans, making the decades-long viability of the NXP chip useful. Security is also a concern.
