A new document security feature from the ITW Security Division promises to boost identification security and make life easier for police and other authorities. The new SecurePrint Laminate Patch enables more secure driver licenses and IDs by providing a new, effective Level 1 document security feature.
Counterfeiters often compromise document security by tampering with the photographs on ID cards and documents, leading anti-counterfeiting companies to focus on “tamper prevention and tamper evidence” ITW says. While “cards can be protected by simple clear laminate patches to add an element of durability, they do not offer the ability to authenticate the card.”
The new ITW product could prove useful for states that print ID documents with standard dye sublimation card printers on PVC or composite cards
The new ITW product, using the latest high security and optically variable inks, tackles that problem by taking the background artwork on ID cards and combining that with the laminate patch to craft a single cohesive card design. “Research indicated that a printed laminate patch containing multi-colors in tight registration would provide an excellent, cost-effective new Level 1 feature for cards,” ITW says. “Level 1 features are essential to law enforcement to enable easy identification of genuine ID Cards and driver licenses without the need for additional equipment.”
ITW’s document security feature is difficult to duplicate
That results in an ID that, according to the company, “is both attractive and original as well as being highly secure and easy to authenticate by law enforcement authorities.” In short, cards without this difficult-to-duplicate feature would be easier for police and other officials to spot, increasing overall document security.
The new product – which ITW Security Division says was developed for the U.S. driver license market “in conjunction” with an unnamed client – could prove useful for states that print ID documents with standard dye sublimation card printers on PVC or composite cards.
Because the document security feature is printed into the SecurePrint Laminate Patch, ITW says, lead-times for products involving this new product are “considerably” shorter compared to other cards and security techniques.
“Driver Licenses and ID Cards are a real target for fraudsters, and our SecurePrint Patch Laminates are an increasingly important part in delivering a timely, cost-effective solution that protects the design and personal data both from wear and tear and tampering by fraudsters,” says Bob Carey, ITW Security Division’s business unit manager.
