Lithuanian biometrics company Neurotechnology has launched its NPointed, a tool that uses hand gestures to navigate and use computer files, rather than relying on a mouse or touch pad to get around a computer.
The software allows end-users to use hand movements to scroll, click, double-click, drag and navigate around a computer screen. The system works through computer vision technology, turning the webcam into a controller when it’s pointed at the hand. Users will have to learn specific gestures to control the system.
While the system is based on hand motion, it will also track head movements as a means of controlling a computer.
NPointer is now available as a free download for Windows XP or any newer PC OS with 1.6 GHz or better. It uses a webcam and NPointer software.
