Starting next fall all residence halls at Michigan State University will feature a card access system using the Spartan Card, the official MSU ID card, reports The State News.
With the new system in place when a student loses his or her student ID administration can remotely deactivate it in about 15 seconds, said campus officials. The system makes it especially easy for when students transfer from one building to the next each year.
Currently, university residence halls are secured with conventional keys and locks. When a student loses their key, the facility requires a key and its lock to be replaced, said Ron Reamer, access control manager for the university.
The Spartan Card is already utilized by MSU students to access campus services including library privileges and to purchase tickets and gain entry into athletic and entertainment events.
