Morpho iris capture device named world’s fastest
Biometric technology specialist, Morpho, has announced the launch of its Morpho IAD (Iris at A Distance) solution, a device that combines iris and face capture. With a iris capture rate of just one second, the MorphoIAD is officially the fastest device currently available on the market.
Capturing iris images at a distance of one meter, the Morpho IAD device is suitable for both enrollment and verification. The device promises to provide effortless, non-intrusive acquisition as the user simply needs to stand within the designated zone and look at the device to conduct verification.
Morpho IAD is suited to a wide variety of applications including border control, access control and flow management. The device’s sleek, modern design allows for seamless integration with e-gates or counters, and can also be mounted on a wall.
HID Global joins Secure Identity Alliance
HID Global announced that it will join the Secure Identity Alliance, the industry’s reference body for secure documents and eServices.
HID’s expertise will help to bolster the secure government-to-citizen ID market worldwide with solutions that provide advantages over traditional paper-based documents, including more cost-effective administration, faster and easier verification, greater durability, increased data privacy and greater protection against counterfeiting.
The Secure Identity Alliance was forged in May 2013 to promote the usage of government issued e-documents, for national identity, health care cards, driving licenses and e-passports to increase security and encourage deployment of secure, convenient online services to strengthen end-user privacy. Since its inception, the Alliance has created two working groups, “Secure Documents” and “Digital Identity,” to tackle the ongoing security, identity and privacy challenges faced by governments.
In addition to HID Global, the Secure Identity Alliance has also added American Banknote Corporation (ABnote) and Trueb AG to its membership ranks. These, along with HID, join the Alliance’s founding members Gemalto, Morpho (Safran), Oberthur Technologies and 3M.
VASCO’s Mydigipass.com selected to strengthen application security
Software security provider VASCO Data Security International has revealed that Illinois Stock Transfer (IST) Shareholder Services, a full service stock transfer agent, will implement VASCO’s MYDIGIPASS.com service to secure customer access to stock records.
IST’s suite of services includes shareholder account management, dividend disbursement, board elections, small share buy backs, stock purchase and dividend reinvestment plans. With some 80,000 customer accounts spanning both public and privately held companies, VASCO is using MYDIGIPASS.com to secure access to customers’ accounts after IST decided to replace its static password system with strong authentication.
VASCO’s hosted consumer authentication platform in the cloud, MYDIGIPASS.com combines high-level security with user convenience. Implementation of VASCO’s solution means that IST will be able to integrate strong authentication using one-time passwords to secure access to its services and content.
Oberthur issues e-passports to the Philippines
Smart card solutions and service provider, Oberthur Technologies, has announced that it has surpassed the 8 million mark in its issuance of e-passports to the Philippines.
Oberthur has been providing the Philippine Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs with secure and high-quality systems since 2009, and has also provided the electronic covers to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for the national passport. This full end-to-end ePassport system was set up and commissioned according to schedule, including enrollment, personalization and central information systems with AFIS.
The Philippine Passport is compliant with the ICAO requirements and is equipped with a tamper-proof microchip bearing the citizen’s identification and personal information. Moreover, the ePassport contains biometric features and Common Criteria certification.
