German retailer Metro Group is working with Checkpoint Systems, a N.J.-based solutions provider, to enable real-time tracking visibility across its global supply chain through its RFID “Tag it easy” program.
Metro has already implemented the the program among 100 manufacturers in Hong Kong, China, and Vietnam but is looking to expand the program to involve more than 75 Chinese and Indian consumer good suppliers. All participants in the program are required to tag their shipments bound for Germany with RFID labels.
The RFID labels, which contain the serial code of their corresponding shipping containers, are read at various checkpoints along the supply chain.
According to a press release by Metro, the program has significantly expedited the processing of incoming goods at Metro’s warehouses, allowing goods to reach individual stores quicker.
