Melexis has announced its participation as co-chair of the newly formed Automotive Working Group within the DASH7 Alliance.
The DASH7 Alliance is a non-profit industry consortium that works with organizations around the world to advance and promotes the development and use of the ISO 18000-7 (DASH7) standard for wireless sensor networking.
Operating in the license-free 433 MHz, DASH7 offers multi-kilometer range, multi-year battery life, sensor and security support, and tag-to-tag communications. DASH7 devices operate on a single global frequency and are interoperable out of the box regardless of application and by design do not require application profiles.
“We see a perfect fit between DASH7 features and performance and the requirements of wireless safety applications,” said Gilles Cerede, product line manager for wireless automotive & sensing at Melexis. “For example the ultra low power consumption matches the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) life time constraints, while the multi-kilometer communication range is perfectly suited for car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure applications. Last but not least, DASH7 is compatible from a frequency point of view with existing remote keyless entry systems.”
