DnB NOR announced NFC pilot
MasterCard Worldwide has selected e-security solution provider Cryptomathic to manage the data preparation requirements for its deployment of the MasterCard Mobile Over The Air Provisioning Service to enable MasterCard PayPass application to be provisioned on to mobile phones.
The new PayPass offering enables consumers to make small-item purchases with a tap of their mobile phone. Once a bank has signed up to offer the service, its customers can register for the service with MasterCard, who, on behalf of the bank, will issue the PayPass application over-the-air directly onto the customers’ mobile phone handset.
The Mobile Over The Air Provisioning Service is operated and managed entirely by MasterCard, with the exception of the data preparation system which is performed by Cryptomathic’s CardInk. This solution will generate the personalization data for MasterCard PayPass mobile phone applications provisioned through this service, ensuring a highly secure environment for data generation and cryptographic key management during the application issuing process.
DnB NOR, Norway’s largest bank, announced its plan to launch a mobile payment services trial for its MasterCard cardholders.
Using the MasterCard Mobile Over-the-Air Provisioning Service, the first service of its kind that enables issuers to perform over-the-air personalization of PayPass in mobile devices, DnB NOR cardholders will be able to trial the service that will allow them to use their NFC-enabled mobile phones to make payments wherever MasterCard PayPass is accepted. Telenor, a provider of telecommunications services worldwide, is also a partner in the trial.
