Lloyds TSB has announced the launch of Visa contactless debit cards to its customers in the greater London area, allowing those living within the M25 motorway to make purchases up to GBP15 with a simple tap.
According to Lloyds, the continued growth in debit card usage has overtaken cash as the method for high street purchases. There are now over 50,000 contactless card readers already accepting contactless payments in the UK at retailers such as AMT, Boots, Burger King, Clinton Cards, Pret a Manger, Spar and Subway.
Lloyds, which joins Barclays, Barclaycard, MBNA, Virgin Money and Orange in offering contactless payment cards in the UK, says it expects to issue one million cards by the end of the year.
